The aim of the paper is to exhibit some relations between the time-varying spectrum and time-frequency analysis. It is shown that time-varying spectrum is an asymptotic concept based on stationary phase approximation. The paper is based on the direct analogy which exists between time-frequency analysis and geometric optics.
