Configurations of ovals (Q1402885)

In this survey paper the author reviews the known hyperovals in PG\((2,q)\) and discusses the relationship of the study of configurations of ovals in PG\((2,q)\), called augmented fans, to that of ovoids in PG\((3,q)\), flocks of a translation oval cone of PG\((3,q)\) and spreads of certain generalized quadrangles of order \(q\). Furthermore, the author considers configurations of ovals in PG\((2,q)\), called herds, and their relationship with flocks of the quadratic cone of PG\((3,q)\). The results cited in this paper are far too numerous to be restated here. The interested reader is referred to the original paper.
