This paper gives a general approach to descent theory associated to a triple. The theory is given in terms of an Amitsur complex, and generalizes both traditional faithfully flat descent theory and recent work of \textit{P. Nuss} [K-Theory 12, 23--74 (1997; Zbl 0884.18015)] on descent theory for non-commutative rings. The authors also display a corresponding version of non-abelian \(H^{1}\) for this theory.
