A linear, specially structured differential-algebraic equation of index \(m+1\) is considered. Using this structure, an index reduction by one is proposed. For \(m=1\), a Galerkin method with Chebyshev polynomials is used to solve three examples from the literature. The results of the original and the index reduced equations are compared.
