No better person than Paul Hill could be chosen to survey the theory of Abelian \(p\)-groups over the past half century. This paper is a chronological survey which describes the major developments in the theory, many of which are due to the author himself. The topics include subsocles supporting pure subgroups, direct sums of torsion-complete and of countable groups, homological methods, Hill's Axiom 3, simply presented groups, transitivity, valuated groups and set theoretic methods.
