The authors deal with the difference equations \(x_{n+1}= a_n/x_{n-1}\), \(x_{n+1}= b_n x_n/x_{n-1}\) \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), with positive, \(p\)-periodic coefficients and give conditions such that every positive solution is periodic respectively not periodic. The possible periods depending on \(p\) are determined.
