This paper develops a constrained optimization process related to superconducting magnets that depends on duality theory, and requires no knowledge of gradients. The computational optimization problem is divided into two distinct parts, one of which concerns the geometrical parameters, while the other finds the best current densities for a specified geometrical configuration.
