The paper is concerned with a boundary value problem for an abstract second-order linear differential equation. Using Dunford's operational calculus, the authors provide a formula for the solution of the problem. The technique used allows decomposing the solution as the sum of a ``regular'' part and a ``singular'' part. Assuming that the forcing function of the equation satisfies a Hölder condition, a study of the regularity properties of both parts is carried out.
