The authors consider an optimal control problem of the cooling process in steel continuous casting. The relevant differential equations are established in the form of temperature and enthalpy formulation. The optimization of this problem is directed to the cooling of the casting process for the given optimality criteria. Since the posed problem is complicated a very laborious numerical study is applied and successfully solved. The paper is written in a very advanced and modern mathematical way.
