The authors are concerned with a mixed finite element method for the numerical solution of a nonlinear exterior domain problem. The approach is based on a mixed variational formulation of a nonlocal boundary value problem on a bounded domain that can be derived from the original one by means of a Dirichlet-to-Neumann mapping related to the associated boundary integral equation. The discretization of the resulting two-fold saddle point problem is taken care of by Raviart-Thomas elements. Both a priori error estimates and Bank-Weiser type a posteriori error estimates are provided.
