The author discusses a multiple smoothness modulus, which is determined by some nonsymmetric generalized shift operator. Theorems are established on the relationship of the above mentioned smoothness modulus with related \(K\)-functionals and the best approximation of functions by algebraic polynomials generalizing results of \textit{M. K. Potapov} [Proc. Steklov Inst. Math. 227, 237--253 (1999); translation from Tr. Mat. Inst. Steklova 227, 243--259 (1999; Zbl 0978.41003)].
