A stable single server queue M/D/1 with Poisson input and deterministic service times is considered. There are two possibilities for the server at the beginning of each idle period: to take a vacation or to wait for the next customer. Standard steady-state analysis is done (deriving the balance equations for the steady state probabilities and calculating the mean queue-size). Both exponential and two phase exponential distribution of the vacation period are studied.
