A theorem in the classic Ascoli style aims to characterize the compact subsets of a function space in terms of equicontinuity. In this paper, a general Ascoli-like theorem is proved in the uniform setting of approach theory, à la \textit{R. Lowen} [Approach spaces: the missing link in the topology-uniformity-metric triad (Clarendon Press, Oxford) (1997; Zbl 0891.54001)].
