The author studies solutions of the quaternion quadratic equation \(x^2 + b_1xc_1 + \cdots + b_nxc_n + d = 0\) under certain conditions on the coefficients; this includes the case \(x^2 + bx + xc + d = 0\). He generalizes a result of \textit{R. M. Porter} [J. Nat. Geom. 11, 101--106 (1997; Zbl 0869.11024)] for the quadratic \(b_1xc_1 + \cdots + b_nxc_n + d = 0\).
