The aim of the present paper is to the study conditions for the representation of a formal power series with operator coefficients in the form of a continued fraction of a special form, close to that of a continuous \(J\)-fraction with numerical elements, and to describe an algorithm for expanding a series into a given fraction. The author uses as main tools in studying the above-mentioned conditions the results obtained in the study of the inverse problem for difference operators representable by infinite matrices with operator elements.
