The authors focus on the oscillatory behaviour of the temperature in a pilot scale fixed bed bioreactor which is used for waste water treatment via time series analysis. The oscillatory behaviour is induced by interconnection between the bioreactor and a heat exchanger by recycling streams. The authors show that, under certain conditions of substrate concentrations, the recycling interaction between the bioreactor and the heat exchanger induces oscillatory behaviour in the bioreactor temperature.
