Ein Beweis von \textit{D. B. Zagier} [``A one-sentence proof that every prime \(f\equiv 1\pmod 4\) is a sum of two squares'', Am. Math. Mon. 97, 144 (1990; Zbl 0735.11014)] wird motiviert und zwar in einem allgemeinen Rahmen. Ferner wird der Beweis auf andere Fälle aus der Theorie der binären quadratischen Formen übertragen.
