The author proposes for two-dimensional functionally graded materials (2D-FGM) volume fractions, obtains rules of mixture, and uses them to calculate the thermal stresses with temperature-independent material properties. The author shows that the zone of maximum thermal stresses is smaller for 2D-FGM than for conventional FGM.
