Der Beweis, daß\ die Lichtstrahlen, d. h. die Kurven, die Lichtkomplexe begrenzen, geodätische Nullinien sind, wird nach \textit{Hadamard}scher Art (Leçons sur la propagation des ondes) geführt, indem man zeigt, daß\ die Wellenfront aus den Bicharakteristiken der Wellengleichung im Gravitationsfeld (das sind die Charakteristiken der Charakteristik der partiellen Differentialgleichung zweiter Ordnung) besteht, und daß\ diese geodätische Nullinien sind.
