Verf. behandelt die Berechnung der unvollständigen Betafunktion \[ I_x(p,q) = \frac{\varGamma (p+q)}{\varGamma (p) \varGamma (q)} \int\limits_0^x x^{p-1}(1-x)^{q-1}dx, \] für die einige asymptotische Entwicklungen und mehrere Tabellen gegeben werden. Vorausgeschickt wird eine kurze Darstellung einer Aufgabe aus der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung, für die die Berechnung von \(I_x(p,q)\) von Bedeutung ist, und ein Bericht über das von \textit{Th. Bayes} [Philos. Trans. R. Soc. Lond. 53, 370--418 (1763; Zbl 1250.60007)] eingeschlagene Verfahren. (IV 16.)
