Nimmt man zu der Funktion \(y = f (x) = x^4 + qx^2 + rx + s\) die ``Hilfskurve'' \(y = g(x) = x^4 + qx^2 + s\) hinzu, so läßt sich die bekannte Diskussion der Gleichung vierten Grades \(f(x) = 0\) ohne weiteres durch die Gestalt und die Lageverhältnisse der Hilfskurve geometrisch deuten.
