    \textit{Sommerfeld} hat bemerkt, daß der Rotor eines flächennormalen Vektors stets senkrecht zu dem Vektor gerichtet ist. Wird der Vektor durch \[ \mathfrak A=-\psi\frac{\partial\varphi}{\partial x}e_1\psi\frac{\partial\varphi}{\partial y}e_2\psi\frac{\partial\varphi}{\partial z}e_3 \] dargestellt, so lautet sein Rotor \[ \begin{multlined} \text{rot}\,\mathfrak A=\left( \frac{\partial \varphi}{\partial y}\frac{\partial\psi}{\partial z}\frac{\partial \varphi}{\partial z}\frac{\partial\psi}{\partial y} \right)e_1+ \left( \frac{\partial \varphi}{\partial z}\frac{\partial\psi}{\partial x}\frac{\partial \varphi}{\partial x}\frac{\partial\psi}{\partial z} \right)e_2\\ + \left( \frac{\partial \varphi}{\partial x}\frac{\partial\psi}{\partial y}\frac{\partial \varphi}{\partial y}\frac{\partial\psi}{\partial x} \right)e_3. \end{multlined} \] In der Tat verschwindet das skalare Produkt zwischen \(\mathfrak A\) und rot~\(\mathfrak A\). Der Verf. bemerkt, daß der rot~\(\mathfrak A\) nicht bloß in der Tangentialebene der Fläche \(\varphi = \text{const}\). liegen muß, sondern auch in der Tangentialebene der Fläche \(\psi = \text{const}\). Denkt man sich also das Vektorfeld \(\mathfrak A\) durch die Flächen \(\varphi\) und \(\psi\) in eine infinitesimale Schar von Röhren zerlegt, so verläuft der rot~\(\mathfrak A\) stets in Richtung dieser Hohlfäden.
