    Das von Elektronen erzeugte Feld läßt sich durch zwei skalare Potentialfunktionen darstellen: \[ F(x,y,z,t)=\textstyle\sum \frac{e}{4\pi}\, \sinh^{-1}\, \frac{\overline{z}'-z}{\sqrt{(\overline{x}'-x)^{2}+(\overline{y}'-y)^{2}}}\,; \] \[ G(x,y,zt)=\textstyle\sum \frac{e}{4\pi} \,\tan^{-1}\, \frac{\overline{y}'-y}{\overline{x}'-x}\,, \] wobei die Summation über alle Elektronen zu erstrecken ist. Der Mangel an Symmetrie in den Ausdrücken ist nur scheinbar, da er verschwindet, sowie man sie in der Form von Vektorgleichungen schreibt. Für ein elektromagnetisches Feld ohne Elektronen wird eine Lösung angegeben, wo \(F\) und \(G\) in der Form von allgemeinen Funktionalgleichungen gegeben sind.
