Das Theorem von Poynting über die Energie im elektromagnetischen Felde ergiebt sich als besonderer Fall eines von Volterra (Acta Math. 16, 189, 1892) herrührenden Satzes. Aus ihnen werden das Gesetz der Wärmeentwicklung in Folge von Hysteresis und ein paar Sätze über die Fortpflanzung des Lichts abgeleitet.
