    Nach historischen Notizen wird das Problem auf das folgende geometrische Problem zurückgeführt: ``Es soll in einem sphärischen Viereck der Durchschnittspunkt der Diagonalen gefunden werden, sobald die Coordinaten der vier Eckpunkte mit Bezug auf ein irgendwie gewähltes sphärisch-rechtwinkliges Axensystem gegeben sind.'' Dies Problem wird analytisch-geometrisch gelöst und das Resultat für die logarithmische Rechnung passend gemacht.
