Eine Vereinfachung der Resultate, welche Herr Cayley in den früheren Arbeiten [``On the theory of the analytical forms called trees'', Phil. Mag. 13, 172--176 (1857) und ``On the analytical forms called trees, with applications to the theory of chemical combinations'', Rep. Brit. Ass. 1875, 257--305 (1875)], veröffentlicht hat. Sie betreffen die Anzahl der Wurzelbäume (root trees) mit \(N\) Ästen (knots) und die Anzahl der besonderen Bäume mit \(N\) Ästen. Wegen der Terminologie muss auf die genannten Abhandlungen verwiesen werden.
