Auszug aus einer grösseren Abhandlung, deren Rezultate ohne Beweis zusammengestellt sind, und die sich zu einem weiteren Auszug nicht eignet. Es sei nur bemerkt, dass der Ausgangspunkt ein Satz von Tchébycheff ist, wonach dasjenige Polynom \(n^{\text{ten}}\) Grades, welches sich so wenig wie möglich von Null entfernt, wenn \(x\) zwischen den Grenzen \(-h\) und \(+h\) variirt, die Form hat: \[ (x+\sqrt{x^2-h^2})^n+(x-\sqrt{x^2-h^2})^n. \]
