Die Relation zwischen den in der Aufgabe bezeichneten Grössen und der halben Axe der elliptischen Bahn wird durch die Lambert'sche Gleichung bestimmt. Gauss, der zuerst die Lösung dieser Probleme gegeben, benutzt jedoch die Lambert'sche Gleichung nicht, indem letztere in ihrer gewöhnlichen Form zwei unendliche Reihen enthält, welche ihrer schwachen Convergenz wegen in den Anwendungen von keinem Nutzen sind. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine Transformation der Lambert'schen Gleichung vorgenommen. Di so erhaltene neue Form kann mit Vortheil die Gauss'sche Formel ersetzen. Darauf giebt der Verfasser einfache Formeln zur Berechnung der übrigen Elemente der elliptischen Bahn.
