In the proof of Proposition 1 of the article [ibid. 34, 97-107 (1998; Zbl 1113.81301)] an incorrect assumption on independence of the words \(u^{j_1},\dots, u^{j_k}\) was used in the step of going from formula (12) to (14). Below, a correct proof is presented, where the formulas are enumerated in line with the article mentioned.
