In the paper a new method combining analytical and numerical approaches is applied to calculate the electric field in a gas laser. It is shown that the method guarantees efficient and highly accurate calculation of the strength of a strongly nonuniform electric field inside the computational domain up to the segments of the domain boundary with a rapidly varying boundary curvature. A model problem of optimization of the shape of electrodes is solved. Numerical results are presented.
