In this paper an easy and shorter proof of the Askey-Wilson integral [\textit{R. Askey} and \textit{J. Wilson}, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 319 (1985; Zbl 0572.33012)] is given. By the application of the proof technique several new results as well as all of previous Askey-Wilson type integrals are obtained.
