The authors consider the model problem of diffraction of an \(H\)-polarized wave by an inhomogeneous cylindrical dielectric body. The model is based on a singular integral equation in the electric-field vector on the cylinder cross section. A numerical algorithm for solving the problem is described that employs the collocation method and a multistep method of minimal residuals. Computations were performed to analyze the convergence rate of the method and the scope of the method.
