A method for solving continuity equations is analyzed and applied to the modeling of ionization waves in electric discharges in gases. It is shown that the dispersive properties of the method play a key role in the modeling of wave processes. The authors propose to use a second-order Godunov-type method, i.e. a modified total variation diminising scheme. The efficiency of this method, which is based on ''monotonized central difference'' and ''harmonic mean'' algorithm, is demonstrated.
