The authors treat the spectral mapping theorem and the asymptotic behaviour of strongly continuous semigroups arising from a given semigroup by a Miyadera perturbation. Using the critical spectrum the authors improve results on the above topics. As a preparation several technical tools concerning the Dyson-Phillips series are presented. The results are applied to an age structured cell equation with spatial dependence.
