This paper deals with the existence of the global attractors for the reaction-diffusion systems and the damped wave systems with nonlinear terms of gradient form, respectively. Sufficient conditions are given to guarantee that these systems are those of gradient form. The approach is to employ a result due to J. K. Hale about the existence of a global attractor of the gradient system. Some examples are provided to illustrate the sufficient conditions.
