The authors define a general tree and use it to model the failure of a fractal tree. Under some natural conditions the authors are able to show that the average number of branches in actual fractures is less than four. The renormalization group transformations for the homogeneous case are obtained, and generalized to the complex plane. Julia sets for both cases have been found.
