Renormgroup symmetries do not operate only on the variables of a differential equation but also on parameters contained in the equation. The author studies for a concrete problem of wave beam propagation in a nonlinear medium how ideas from the theory of approximate symmetries can be used to find renormgroup symmetries. Exact and approximate solutions are compared for several types of boundary conditions.
