A parabolic problem is considered. The authors introduce a different way of approximating the initial condition. They investigate the superconvergence of the finite element approximation for the parabolic problem, using any order element. A superconvergence of \(u_h-R_h u\) is first given; then, using a postprocessing, the accuracy to higher order is improved. Some applications of these results are also given.
