The authors propose a new elemental decomposition scheme for dynamic process optimization. Exploiting the almost block diagonal structure of the collocation matrix, this decomposition improves the efficiency of their previous approach [A.I.Ch.E.J. 44, 1038 (1998)] and at the same time preserves its stability.
