Consider the Liénard system \((*)\) \( dx/dt = y\), \(dy/dt = -(\varepsilon_2 x+\varepsilon_1)y+x^2+x\). Transforming this system into the Takens-Bogdanov normal form, the author determines regions in the \(\varepsilon_1\), \(\varepsilon_2\)-parameter plane such that \((*)\) has no nontrivial periodic solution.
