This is a survey paper on asymptotic group theory. Here the author discusses the asymptotic properties of irreducible representations of the classical algebraic groups over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(p>0\) with highest weights large enough with respect to \(p\). Two topics are involved in the paper: one is the behavior of unipotent elements in such representations, and the other is the restrictions of such representations to naturally embedded subgroups. Several conjectures are proposed by the author.
