The author derives a constitutive relation which takes into account the effect of cyclic preloading on the nonlinear viscoelastic response of glassy polymers. It is shown that the constitutive law correctly predicts experimental data in tensile relaxation tests for virgin polypropylene specimens and for samples subjected to cyclic preloading. Numerical results are presented in diagrams.
