The complicated field equations for transversely isotropic piezoelectric material are decoupled in a suitable way by introducing eight state variables so that computational tasks are somewhat mitigated. The approach is applied to the vibrations of simply supported laminated rectangular plates. Numerical results are given for a three-layered piezoelectric plate.
