    In the unidirectional solidification design problem, the challenge is the prediction of temporal conditions at the boundaries, such that the solidification velocity and liquid-side temperature gradient at the solid-liquid interface follow a predetermined design scenario. The considered problem requires the solution of two inverse problems. Here an innovative solution technique is proposed and demonstrated for design of liquid-side temperature gradient during unidirectional solidification.
