Projections are widely used in machine vision, volume rendering and computer graphics. Using projection decomposition, \textit{C. M. Wittenbrink} et al [Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing 46, 148-164 (1997)] and \textit{G. C. Cameron} et al [Proc. Third Eurographics Workshop on Rendering, pp. 135-145, Bristol, UK (1992)] have designed parallel volume rendering algorithms on SIMD-architecture computers. These algoritms however only handle orthographic projections. The authors present a parallel projection algorithm on SIMD mesh-connected computers for both orthographic and perspective projections. It is also oberved that the total processing time for a projection is of order \(n^2\) in the worst case for an \( n\times n\times n \) volume data set.
