The author studies the well-posedness of the semilinar Cauchy problem \[ u'(t)=Au (t)+f\bigl(t,u(t)\bigr), \quad t\geq 0,\qquad u(0)=u_0, \] where \(A\) is a Hille-Yosida operator with non necessarily dense domain on a Banach space \(X\). The author applies the abstract results to study the well-posedness of the semilinear functional-differential equation \[ u'(t)=Au(t)+ g(t,u_t),\;t\geq 0,\;u_0=\varphi, \] with finite and infinite delay.
