The authors construct, in the group of infinite unitriangular matrices over the field with two elements, a free subgroup of rank 2, which is a group of finite-automata transformations over a two-element alphabet. The method of construction is essentially reduced to calculations with \(3\times 3\) matrices over the field with two elements.
