The author presents two kinds of approach to study of submanifolds of Euclidean space of finite dimension: with the methods of geometric measure theory and with the standard tools of differential geometry, particularly, using the tangent space to the graph of the generalized Gauss map. Variational applications concluding the paper show a power of two unified methods.
