The Cauchy theory for balance laws of scalar valued quantities is given a nice formulation in the general setting of an \(m\)-dimensional orientable manifold \(S\) without any further geometrical structure. The basic idea is to replace the densities in the Cauchy theorem for fluxes by differential forms.
