The author introduces some freeness conditions for 2-crossed complexes and presents some results on free and totally free 2-crossed modules. Among other results it is proved that the full subcategory of crossed complexes is a reflexive subcategory of the category \({\mathcal X}_2{\mathcal C}omp\) consisting of 2-crossed complexes together with the morphisms between them.
